Violent retribution unleashed in Chanho after sword attack on alleged molester

Ranchi: A gruesome incident unfolded in Kurga village of Patratu Panchayat, where 26-year-old Upendra Oraon lost his life at the hands of his neighbor, Sanju Oraon, who attacked him with a sword. The accused, Sanju Oraon, has been arrested and subsequently sent to jail by the police. However, the fury of the villagers knew no bounds as they retaliated by setting fire to Sanju Oraon’s house, reducing it to ashes along with all its contents. Sanju’s wife and children had reportedly fled the house during the night.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of November 15, as Sanju, allegedly in an intoxicated state, struggled to tie his cattle outside his house. Observing his predicament, Upendra Oraon, passing by at the time, offered assistance and took him inside his house. In a shocking turn of events, Sanju accused Upendra of molesting his wife and attacked him with a sword. Upendra, critically injured, was rushed to the Rural Community Health Center in Chanho. Despite initial aid, his condition remained critical, and he was referred to RIMS for further treatment. Tragically, Upendra succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The aftermath of the incident saw enraged villagers storming Sanju Oraon’s residence on Thursday morning. The mob demolished the accused’s concrete house, which was reportedly built under a government housing scheme. Every item inside the house, including asbestos, was set ablaze. The tumultuous situation only calmed down upon the arrival of the police.

In a separate development, Upendra’s body was cremated late in the evening. The police station in-charge, Ranjay Kumar, confirmed that the murder accused, Sanju Oraon, was apprehended during the night, but the violent retribution from the villagers demonstrated the intensity of the emotions surrounding the incident.
