Jamshedpur, July 2: In protest against the recent arrest of Dantu Singh by the Forest Department team on charges of killing a wild boar in Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, thousands of tribal and indigenous people from Chandil, Nimdih, Patamda, MGM, and Bodam blocks surrounded the forest department office in Mango. The protest, organized under the banner of Dalma Van Chhetra Prabhavi Sangharsh Samiti, saw villagers armed with traditional weapons demanding Singh’s release.

The villagers claimed that Dantu Singh was innocent and had been falsely accused. The protest led to a blockade on Mango’s main road. Despite Ranger Dinesh Chandra’s attempts to pacify the crowd, the villagers insisted on Singh’s release. The siege ended only after Dinesh Ranjan assured a proper investigation into the matter.

Dantu Singh was arrested on June 5 and sent to jail for allegedly killing a wild boar. Ranger Dinesh Chandra stated that the department would conduct a thorough investigation and submit the report at the earliest.

The protesters included JMM leader and Jharkhand agitator Sukhram Hembram, former District Council Vice President Devashish Rai, BJP District General Secretary Madhusudan Gorai, District Council member Asit Singh Patro, and Sukhlal Pahariya, among others. The villagers’ siege lasted for half an hour before they dispersed.
