Ranchi : The Chief Secretary R S Sharma today said that the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) should be made accountable for collection of the water tax and for the maintenance of supply pipeline in rural areas. He said this today at a review meeting of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department (DWSD) held at the Project Building.
The Chief Secretary focused on the piped water supply and its operation and maintenance (O&M).
He said that the construction company should sublet this job to an agency. He suggested to hold meetings with the municipal corporations for maintaining the water schemes in the urban areas.
At the meeting the Additional Chief Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Shri. Sudhir Prasad presented the progress of rural water supply projects.
He also explained various difficulties inrespect of the development of projects and the problem in qualifying criteria of standard bidding documents (SDB). He is of the view that the criteria of SDB norms be relaxed.
He also illustrated the development in respect of the web portal of the department. The Chief Secretary stressed on digitization of maps and the data entry work by DW&SD.
He wanted a probe behind the reasons for the single tenders and curb this unhealthy practice.
He wanted that construction of prefabricated toilets should be taken up in the rural areas of Jharkhand.
The Engineer-in-Chief, DWSD, Shri. S. Narayan, the Chief Engineer, DWSD, Shri. S.K.Daan, the Chief Engineer, DWSD, Shri. D.D.Sharma along with other officials were also present during the meeting.
