Jamshedpur, Aug 20: Jharkhand government has increased the amount of compensation given to the victims of various crimes following the directive of Supreme Court.
Neelesh Sanga, secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jamshedpur, said the Apex Court issued the order on 11th May 2018 and 25th July 2018 in Nipun Saxena versus Union of India. The order was passed on the contention that any crime like gangrape, murder or acid attack affects not only the mental state of a family but also affects its financial condition. The purpose of the compensation is to the share their pain and agony and to ensure that they lead life comfortably, he said.
As per the state government notification issued on 30th July 2019, the victims of murder and gang rape would get compensation up to Rs 10 lakh. The victims of rape and unnatural sexual offences would get Rs 7 lakh instead of Rs 4 lakh. Acid attac victims would get up to Rs 8 lakh and those sustaining grievous hurt would get Rs 4 lakh, he said.
