Vegetable vendor killed in a mishap on Bistupur Main Road

Jamshedpur : A 45-year-old man was killed on the spot after ran over by car near hotel Natraj on Bistupur Main Road last midnight. The car driver along with two youths was drunk. After hitting the man, the car (OR09P-5507) hit the divider and subsequently overturned. The victim was identified as Kunj Bihari , a vegetable vendor and resident of Nalanda district of Bihar. Though the victim had died on the spot, but still the police rushed him to Tata Main Hospital were the doctors on the emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

Meanwhile, the police had nabbed the two youths from the overturned car and took them under custody as they were drunk and were driving in a unruly manner. The two youths in question were identified as Rajdeep Singh (26), a resident of Sakchi Gurudwara Bustee and Rajpreet Singh (24), a resident of Odisha.

OC, Bistupur police station, Srineevas said that the mishap took place as the two youths were driving at a high speed from the Jugsalai end of Bistupur toward Sakchi.

“The two had a fight with a Bistupur-based bar. As the bar management had called in police, both drove fast toward Sakchi.  In their attempt to flee, the Rajdeep who was driving the car had first hit a patrolling vehicle near N-Road crossing.  As the car was passing through the Natraj Hotel, it hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road.  The pedestrian who was later identified as Kunj Bihari Jamadar was killed on the spot,” said the OC. The police later seized the car and brought both the accused to the Bistupur thana for prosecution.

In protest against the mishap, a group of 30 vegetable vendors from Bistupur had demonstrated in front of the Bistupur police station, demanding compensation for the mishap victim.
