Jamshedpur: Heavy rainfall over the past few days has severely impacted the supply of local vegetables in Jamshedpur, causing a sharp spike in prices. With no local produce arriving, vegetable prices have surged, placing a heavy burden on middle-class and poor families.
Not a single vegetable is available for less than ₹40 per kilogram in the Jamshedpur market. As a result, most consumers are purchasing vegetables in smaller quantities. Vegetarian households, in particular, are feeling the brunt of the crisis.
Jagannath Sarangi, a long-time vegetable vendor at the market, attributed the price hike to the disruption in the arrival of local produce. “Due to continuous rainfall, local vegetables are not reaching the market. Vegetables coming from Jamshedpur and nearby areas are costlier, which is affecting both prices and sales,” he said.
Vendors and consumers alike hope that prices will stabilize once local vegetable supplies resume.
