Vedanta’s Master Plan: Cable Manufacturing Unit in Jamshedpur to be Fully Automated

Jamshedpur: Vedanta Limited has drawn up an ambitious master plan to revive and strengthen cable manufacturing operations in Jamshedpur, with a clear focus on full automation and advanced manufacturing technology. Under the plan, the cable unit will be transformed into a completely automated plant, marking a major shift from conventional production methods.

As part of the modernisation drive, outdated machinery will be dismantled and replaced with state-of-the-art, next-generation equipment. Sources said the automated manufacturing facility will be developed in collaboration with leading international cable technology partners, enabling Vedanta to adopt global best practices and advanced production standards.

Beyond conventional cable manufacturing

The master plan goes beyond traditional cable production. To support India’s rapidly expanding power infrastructure, the Jamshedpur facility will also manufacture high-capacity transformers, advanced switchgear, and high-voltage power cables. The expansion is expected to play a key role in meeting the growing demand from large-scale power and infrastructure projects.

Officials said that diversification into power equipment manufacturing will significantly enhance the unit’s capabilities and position it as a strategic hub for cable and power solutions.

Employment boost through cable and power projects

The expansion of cable and power projects is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities for local residents. Vedanta believes the project will create jobs not only for skilled technicians and engineers but also for youth and workers associated with auxiliary services.

Aluminium rods to be supplied from Vedanta’s own plant

As part of the master plan, Vedanta has also announced the supply of specialised industrial cables for Jamshedpur’s industrial sector. A key highlight of the project is that aluminium rods will be supplied directly from Vedanta’s own plant, helping to significantly reduce production costs and improve efficiency.

To further enhance output and productivity, the company will deploy modern, next-generation technologies across the facility. Under its modernisation initiative, Vedanta is also preparing to issue tenders in the global and mechanical sectors in the near future.

Industry sources expect that this project will create new employment avenues not only for local youth and technical professionals but also for existing employees, giving fresh momentum to Jamshedpur’s industrial ecosystem.
