Jamshedpur: Overnight leader Simarjeet Singh and teammate Samarth Dwivedi reversed their previous round scores to extend their lead to five strokes over Haryana ‘B’ at the halfway stage of the Tata Steel Inter State Golf Championship 2014 being played here at the Par 71 Golmuri Golf Course.
The young guns of Haryana ‘B’ put up a spirited fight with Yuvraj Sandhu carding three-under par 68 and Anant Singh Ahlawat scoring a second consecutive one-under par 70. Team Karnataka ‘B’ is placed three strokes behind in third place with the help of Trishul Chinnappa’s four-under par 67.
Udayan Mane of Karnataka ‘A’ surged to the top of the individual leaderboard to join overnight co leader Harimohan Singh of Uttar Pradesh ‘C’ at a gross score of seven-under par 135 when he shot four-under par 67 for the day. The day’s best card was however bought in by Karnataka ‘C’s Rahul Ravi and Sahil Kumar Singh who both shot five-under par 66 for the day.
Udayan, who holds the course record of a ten-under par 61 here, began with a string of pars before a timely birdie on the Par 3 5th hole got him going. Another birdie on the Par 5 9th hole followed as he went out two-under par for the day and five-under par for the week. From the 10th hole he made alternate pars and birdies to go four-under for the day and closed out with five consecutive pars for a bogey free second round. Co-leader Harimohan dropped two strokes but gained five on his way to a round of three-under par 68.
Burly lad Udayan said, “I’ve been here before and won here before, so it gives me confidence to go out and do the job over the next two days.” He added, “However, the scoring this week has been very competitive and a lot of brilliant players are in contention when I look over my shoulder.”
