Jamshedpur, April 14: The Utkal Association celebrated the Odia New Year, also known as Pana Sankranti, with great enthusiasm at its premises on Monday. The occasion was marked by traditional offerings, along with a vibrant poetry recitation session.
The chief guest of the event, Dr. Prabhat Pani, highlighted the rich history of the Odia language and literature. He emphasized the depth and cultural significance of Odia literary works. Guest of Honour and Registrar of Kolhan University, Parshuram Shiyal, described Odia as an ancient and refined language, noting its abundance of timeless compositions.
Dr. Bidhu Bhushan Bhuiya, HOD, PG, Odia Department at Kolhan University, paid tribute to eminent Odia writers such as Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gangadhar Meher, Radhanath Roy, Gopabandhu Das, Manoj Das, and Ramakant Rath, who elevated the language to international prominence.
The event was chaired by Sanjay Patra, a renowned educationist and chairman of the association. Writers were warmly welcomed, continuing the tradition of celebrating the Odia New Year with literary fervor.
The poetry recitation session was conducted by B.B. Bhuiyan. Several poets including Manicharan Sahu, Kashinath Gaur, Aditya Kabi, Shasmita Patra, and others presented their original compositions.
The event’s success was ensured through the dedicated efforts of General Secretary Tarun Kumar Mahanty, Pratibha Mahantu, Manoranjan Gaur, and members including Manoranjan Giri, Niranjan Nayak, Prashant Mahanthy, Kishore Nayak, Manoj Sahu, and Sukanta Raut.
