Urban Development Minister asks civic bodies to perform

Jamshedpur : The civic bodies have been warned by the Minister for Urban Development CP Singh for taking the job casually and have been asked to pull up their socks and smoothen the functioning of public related works.

The civic body is often criticized for dragging its feet over petty works like issuing certificates and hurdles in getting work done until an employee is obliged by public. The Minister issued stern warning against the practice that has brought more disrepute to the body under Urban Development Department and forthrightly cautioned the employees to shun the habit else face the music.

The Minister asked for improvements in the delivery system to end grievances of people with the municipal corporation and expressed his ambition of improving the condition of cities across Jharkhand.

The State Urban Development Minister and Housing Minister C. P Singh held a review meeting with urban development department officials this evening at the Circuit House in city.

He asked local civic bodies to acquire land for projects before giving nod for detailed project report (DPR) and tender for different urban infrastructure.  

“Lack of lands is a major hurdle. We have seen that several projects getting delayed due to non availability of land. The urban development department has directed all officials of local civic bodies to first ensure availability of land before moving ahead before giving green signal of the project,” said C.P Singh.

Several important projects like the JNNURM solid waste management project have been delayed in the city due to delay in land acquisition for project.

The minister admitted of the menace of garbage lying on roads in cities of the road. “Shortage of manpower is also one of the major issues in different state-owned civic bodies across the state.

The department has therefore gone for outsourcing of cleaning operations in the city to private hands and necessary directives have been issued to the local civic body officials,” said C. P Singh.
