Ranchi: Former Union minister and the MP of Ranchi Subodhkant Sahay today said that the United Progressive Alliance government had focussed much of its efforts on rural development.

He said most of the villages were now witnessing a growing number of villagers working at their native place under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and availing other benefits. He said the government had ensured that the rural populace gets adequate employment opportunities round the year.

He said this had led to a crisis of workers for the industrialists. He said the village people should keep abreast of their rights and the government schemes so that they do not miss out on any vital point while wishing to avail their benefits.

The special guest of the programme was the state finance and energy minister Rajendra Prasad Singhf. He said the UPA government should be given credit for introducing many new and pro-public rules and ordinances. He said the senior citizens, women, students and minors were now better off as the Central government had succeeded in implementing many of its ambitious schemes.

The chairperson of Zila Parishad Sundari Tirkey was also present during the programme. She too, praised the UPA government for many ‘firsts’ to its credit.
