Jamshedpur, Jan 30: A surprise raid was conducted on an unlicensed airgun shop operating in Sakchi market, leading to the seizure of 19 air rifles, air guns, and numerous accessories. The raid, led by Dhalbhum SDO Shatabdi Majumdar and two executive magistrates, took place at Shop No. 10 in Jaiswal Complex, located next to Mansarovar Hotel in Sakchi, under the Sakchi police station.
The shop, owned by Tarakeshwar Nath Jaiswal alias Tara Jaiswal, was found to be selling Indian and foreign air rifles and airguns without the required license. When asked to provide a sales register and stock records, Jaiswal failed to do so. Authorities seized a significant amount of goods during the three-hour raid, including 19 air rifles and air guns of various models, 55 packets of bullets, telescopes, cleaning rods, rifle covers, and other parts.
The authorities took immediate action after receiving a complaint from the owner of a licensed gun shop in Bistupur. The complaint was filed in July last year, reporting the unauthorized operation of the weapon repair and airgun sales shop in Sakchi. Based on the investigation, an FIR was lodged against Jaiswal under the Arms Act at Sakchi police station.
Jaiswal, during interrogation, claimed that he had worked for years as a craftsman at a licensed gun shop in Bistupur but was fired after an allegation of tampering. He then opened his own shop in Sakchi, despite not having the necessary license. He also admitted to having contacts with licensed weapon owners in the city.
