Tatanagar railway station goes Wi-Fi, joins club of 100 such stations across India

Jamshedpur: Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday launched the free wi-fi facility through an online system from Darjeeling. Apart from the wi-fi facility, the minister also inaugurated online a 40 KW solar power plant at the Chakradharpur railway station.

Addressing the function, the divisional railway manager (DRM) of Chakradharpur Rajendra Prasad said that with the wi-fi facility, Tatanagar has made it to the list of 100 stations in the country that is equipped with high speed wireless fidelity, a Google gift to India.

The free wi-fi facility will enable passengers to send WhatsApp messages, download movies and check Facebook updates. The wi-fi facility will provide a speed of 1000 mbps for the first 30 minutes thereafter the speed limit will become 2 mbps. The facility was put on trial at the A1 station in the first week of December last year.

Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Balmuchu and Jugsalai MLA Ramchandra Sahis were present during the launch function of wi-fi facility at the A1-category Tatanagar railway station.

The launch function was also attended by members of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry and various passenger outfits.

President of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Suresh Sonthalia said businessmen and corporate executives travelling to various destinations from Tatanagar would benefit the most. �It will be an addition to passenger amenities,” he added.

Located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route Tatanagar is an important station. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
