Jamshedpur, Sep 27: Employees of Union Bank participated in a one-day strike on a national scale, organized by the Joint Forum of Union Bank. The strike aimed to address several critical issues, including the need for adequate recruitment across all bank posts, the permanentization of long-serving temporary employees, and opposition to the apprenticeship, outsourcing, and contracting systems.
The strike saw robust participation throughout the Singhbhum district, with Union Bank’s BEFI members vocally expressing their demands outside various branches. They raised slogans to underscore their grievances and the necessity for change.
DN Singh, President of the Singhbhum District Bank Employees Association, and General Secretary Sujay Rai praised the striking employees, stating, “We commend all our colleagues for their strong participation in this vital strike.” They acknowledged the leadership of Union Bank unit leaders GC Tiwari, Shankar Dayal, Ramji Singh, and Sanjay Kumar for rallying the workforce effectively.
The event also witnessed the presence of other leaders from the Singhbhum District Bank Employees Association, including AK Maitra, Biman Dasgupta, Manotosh Chakraborty, Subroto Kadu, Tapas Das, and C Venkat Rao, who all stood in solidarity with the striking employees. The strike successfully disrupted regular operations, highlighting the ongoing struggles within the banking sector.
