Unfunded teachers in Jharkhand plan agitation over pending demands

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Vittarahit Shiksha Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha has announced a phased agitation during the upcoming assembly session to address various pending demands. The decision was made in a meeting attended by principals, teachers, and representatives from across the state. The meeting, presided over by Surendra Jha and conducted by Anil Tiwari, discussed issues related to unfunded educational institutions and sought state employee status for unpaid education workers.

The demands include the approval of four times the grant for unfunded institutions, granting state employee status to unpaid education workers, and releasing pending grants for the financial year 2020-2021. As part of the agitation, over 10,000 unpaid teachers will observe a fast on December 15, and on December 18, teachers and staff will burn effigies of finance less entities in their respective schools and colleges. On December 19, a memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Minister, followed by a one-day dharna (sit-in) in front of the Assembly. The agitation will escalate with teachers planning to surround the residences of MLAs on December 20 and 21. If their demands are not addressed, they intend to gherao (surround) the Chief Minister’s residence.

The agitation aims to draw attention to the challenges faced by unfunded teachers and educational institutions in Jharkhand, urging the government to take prompt action to address their concerns.
