Jadugoda, Sept 20: While the festive season is in the air, the Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL) workers are agitating for their demands. According to the General Secretary of Singhbhum Uranium Mazdoor Union (SUMU), Ramesh Majhi, “The UCIL workers are out on the streets fighting for their rights. The seed of this stir have been sown by the UCIL management to test our patience that is now running out. It is high time that the UCIL management takes the initiative and clears the air by calling a meeting in a move to reconcile the situation so that work could resume after an amicable settlement of the SUMU’s demands for the rights of workers. It is for the management to come forward and initiate a settlement.”
The workers are agitating at the UCIL Hospital Chowk in Jadugoda. Other labour leaders Raja Ram Singh, Anand Mahto and Surjit Singh also addressed the workers and urged them to maintain unity to ensure that their legitimate demands could be attained.
