Jamshedpur, Jan 22: A campaign led by Jamshedpur’s Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Shatabdi Majumdar to address parking issues has sparked outrage among locals, especially after the tyres of several vehicles, including those of BJP leaders, were let out in Sakchi. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in heated protests from BJP workers.
The campaign, which involves deflating the tyres of improperly parked vehicles, aimed to address road congestion and improve the overall transport system. However, the deflation of tyres led to a chaotic scene when vehicles parked near the office of BJP’s Jamshedpur Mahanagar President, Sudhanshu Ojha, were targeted. Among the vehicles deflated were those of BJP leaders, with one incident involving a bullet motorcycle that was carrying a pregnant woman.

BJP workers, who were attending a meeting at the time, quickly mobilized and protested the actions of the authorities. “It’s an inhumane act to let out the tyres of vehicles, especially those carrying pregnant women. If there are parking violations, fines should be imposed, not such harsh measures,” said one of the protesting BJP workers.
The protests grew intense and as the situation escalated, SDO Shatabdi Majumdar left the scene abruptly, refusing to comment when approached by the media. Sitting in her car, she drove off without engaging in discussions, further fuelling dissatisfaction.
Locals and political leaders alike have criticized the approach, suggesting that while improving the road transport system is important, the method of tyre deflation is causing unnecessary hardship. “The authorities should find more humane ways to address parking issues,” one local resident remarked.
