Jamshedpur, Jan 28: Two persons drowned in a canal near the Kali temple under Bodam police station area on Monday, police said.
A group of six youths went to the canal area about 12-km from here to spend time. Two persons in the group drowned while taking bath, officer-in-charge of Bodam police station, Mohammad Tanzil said.
On being informed by the family members, a police team rushed to the spot and rushed the two persons to Brahmanand Hospital, where doctors declared them dead, a police officer said.
Sources said the youths, all pursuing Graduation and residents of Mango, had gone to the canal site for picnic. During picnic, one of the youths went into the canal to fetch water. The youth started drowning as he did not how to swim. Soon, his friends jumped into the canal to save him, but all started drowning as it was too deep there.

Hearing the cries of the drowning youths, local villagers rushed to the spot and brought them out. The youths were sent to the hospital where two of them, identified as Niranjan and Aditya, were declared brought dead.
