Two workers die of suffocation in lubricant factory adjoining Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, July 25: Two people died due to suffocation while working in a tank inside a lubricant refining factory on Wednesday. One worker fell unconscious during the incident. The accident took place in Potka police station area.

Sources said the victims, Amrood Mahto and Ukil Mahto were cleaning the tank around 8 am when they fell into the tank and died of suffocation. Another worker Gulab Mahato was also cleaning the tank with the two.

The workers working outside the tank somehow brought the victims out of the tank. The three were taken to a nearby health centre where two of them were declared brought dead, sources said.

According to Naveen Agrawal, the company proprietor, the workers had long been serving in the factory. Usually the workers would enter the tank after waiting for some time following the opening of the lid. But today, the workers probably entered the tank soon after opening its lid, he said.

As the news spread, police reached the spot and began investigation into the incident. The bodies were sent to the MGM Medical College for post-mortem examination.

After the incident, there is considerable resentment among the labourers and villagers. Given the situation, police force has been deployed near the factory. At the same time the police have said that the matter is under investigation.
