Road mishaps at Mango and Patamda
Jamshedpur : Tragedy struck as two persons including a woman were killed in separate road mishaps at Mango and Patamda on Thursday morning.
A 50-year-old woman was killed on the spot on being run over by a trailer at Sankosai on Dimna Road under Olidih police station in Mango, in another mishap a 20-year-old youth was killed while travelling in a van at Patamda Road in Patamda.
Shobha Chandra was heading for Dimna Road with her husband when a speeding trailer which was coming from the right side hit the bike. As a result of the mishap, the woman as well as her husband fell off the road. The woman died on the spot.
Both the mishap victims were rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital where the woman was declared as brought dead.
A section of local residents had set up a blockade to protest the movement of heavy vehicles on the Dimna Road.
In another incident, the mishap victim identified as Somnath Khalinga was found killed in a van in which he was travelling from Jamshedpur to his house in Patamda.
Led by sub-inspector Ramchandra Mahto, the police party recovered the body to send to MGM Hospital.
On the other hand statistics show that among the vehicles at fault (vehicles responsible for the death of victims) in road accidents, trucks and trailers topped the list.
These heavy vehicles were responsible for the death of 100 odd people and injuries to more than 400 people last year, proving that the twin menace of over-speeding and rash driving continue to be ignored by the law makers and enforcers alike.
Though District Traffic Advisory Committee, (DTAC) took up various issues in the direction of checking the rising incidents of road accident in the East Singhbhum but still the situation remains the same.
DTAC is in place for last few years but over the moths it rarely ever met to deliberate on the issues pertaining to the road rage cases. And, probably for the first time in the year 2009 the committee held a meeting this afternoon that witnessed full strength participation of the members.
