Two killed in lightning strike near Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Sept 26: Two persons lost their lives after being struck by lightning during rainfall at Namshol village under Bodam police station area on Friday afternoon around 1 pm.

The deceased have been identified as farmer Prabhash Singh (45) and labourer Chakradhar Mahato (44). The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire village.

According to sources, both victims were working in a cauliflower field and later sat down under a neem tree with two other workers to have lunch.

While they were halfway through their meal, lightning suddenly struck, killing Singh and Mahato on the spot. The other two workers narrowly escaped unharmed.

Following the incident, villagers rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Chirudih Nursing Home, where doctors declared them brought dead.

On receiving information, Bodam police reached the village, took the bodies into custody, and sent them to MGM Medical College for post-mortem. The sudden tragedy has left the families of the deceased devastated, with relatives and villagers mourning inconsolably.

Locals have urged the administration to provide adequate compensation and support to the bereaved families.

They also stressed the need to raise awareness to prevent such lightning-related mishaps in the future.
