Jamshedpur: A horrific road accident took place on NH 18 near the drain connecting Jagannathpur and Kapagoda villages of Ghatshila police station area of East Singhbhum district. Two people died in the mishap. According to information the standing oil tanker was hit directly by a truck coming from the direction of Jamshedpur. In the accident, Bhikhadi Das, a resident of Kapagoda, the driver of the truck and the tanker’s assistant died on the spot. Seeing the same tanker colliding directly behind the truck, the driver of the truck, Raja Das, jumped and saved his life. But the tanker driver fled from the spot after the incident.
Raja informed the family and villagers of the deceased truck driver about the incident. The villagers informed the Ghatshila police station in-charge Indradev Ram about the mishap. The incident happened between Sunday and Monday at around 2 pm. Immediately on information, the police reached the spot and tried to retrieve the body of the driver, Bhikhari Das, who was trapped inside the truck. After a lot of effort, after about five hours, both the vehicles were separated and the body was taken out. During this, a long queue of vehicles coming from the Jamshedpur side started. NH was jammed for about an hour.
The police cleared NH 18 by crossing the vehicles one by one. Raja Das, a resident of Kapagoda, an eye-witness of the accident, said that it has been about 25 days. I have gone to learn how to drive. Around 12 o’clock on Sunday night, he left Jamshedpur to go to Kolkata with a company’s material. After some distance I fell asleep in the truck. After crossing Galudih, the driver Bhikhadi Das woke me up. Said that in a while we will reach home and rest. But I noticed that the driver is blinking again and again.
