Jamshedpur: Two persons, including an eight-year-old girl drowned in the Kharkai river under Kadma police station on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Chhoti Kumari and Deepa Singh (30). The mishap took place when both had gone to take bath in the river. The body of Chhoti has been recovered by the divers while woman is still traceless.
During the course of bathing on the banks of Kharkai, Chhoti slipped into deep water. At the sight of the drowning girl, the woman tried to save her by jumping into the water. But both were swept away by
the strong current, the sources added.
A police team led by Kadma officer incharge Raju Thakur reached the spot as the news spread. As the current of the Kharkai is presently very strong, the two bodies swept away in the river. Informing about the attempts to trace out the body of Deepa, the police said that they have engaged some local divers to locate the bodies and also requested Jusco, a Tata Steel subsidiary for providing professional divers.
