Jamshedpur, Nov 3: On Thursday night, Circle Officer (CO) of Baharagora Block, Bhola Shankar Mahato and OC of Baharagora police station, Santan Tiwari jointly launched a campaign against illegal mining. During this operation, two Hywa trucks involved in the illegal transportation of sand were seized and taken to the police station.
Sources informed that due to restrictions, sand mining was being carried out illegally on the banks of Swarnrekha River along Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. Sand was being excavated without required documentation and the sand thus mined was transported to Jamshedpur by Hywa trucks at night. This illegal business was highly profitable, with hefty amounts collected through these activities. To conduct this business, sand mafias evade the administration’s vigilance by using private four-wheeler vehicles throughout the night.
