Jamshedpur: In a major success under the ongoing anti-crime campaign, Jugsalai police on Friday night arrested two suspects during a vehicle checking drive near Parvati Ghat around 10 p.m.
A country-made pistol, several live cartridges, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle were seized from their possession.
According to police, one of the accused is a minor, while the other has been identified as Md. Rehan, a resident of the Bistupur area.
City SP Kumar Shivashish, while addressing a press conference on Saturday, said that preliminary investigations suggest the duo was planning to commit a criminal act. “A case has been registered against them, and further legal action is underway,” he said, adding that both will be taken on remand for interrogation to trace the source of the weapon and its intended use.
The City SP informed that the anti-crime drive is being conducted across Jamshedpur under the directive of the SSP to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and related offences.
He added, “The trend of criminals roaming with weapons has become a modus operandi in the city, which we are determined to break.”
Police officials reiterated that the focus remains on elements attempting to disrupt peace and law and order. Late-night checking operations are being conducted in all police station areas, including Jugsalai, to tighten surveillance and ensure citizens’ safety.
