Jamshedpur, Dec 12: In a major late-night crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Parsudih police on Friday arrested two youths with 18 pouches of brown sugar near the Parsudih Market Committee.
The raid was conducted on the basis of a secret tip-off and led by Station Officer-in-Charge Avinash Kumar.
An FIR has been registered against four accused—Ratan Baste alias Butru (23), Roshan Barla (26), Manjhula of Bagbera, and Irfan of Mango. While Ratan and Roshan were caught during the operation, the other two fled the spot.
Police received intelligence that a drug deal was about to take place in the area. Acting swiftly, the team cordoned off the location and apprehended the duo. All 18 pouches of brown sugar recovered from them have been seized for further investigation.
Both arrested suspects have fallen into police custody for the first time, officials said. Interrogation is ongoing to identify the hideouts of the absconding accused. Raids are being conducted in likely locations to nab Manjhula and Irfan.
Police have reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in the drug trade in Parsudih and surrounding localities. The process to send the arrested duo to judicial custody is underway.
