Jamshedpur: The Azadnagar police, in a joint operation led by the Patamda DSP, arrested two individuals — including a minor — for allegedly trafficking banned cough syrup.

One of the accused has been identified as Imran Khan alias Vicky (25), a resident of the Chepa Pul area under Azadnagar police station. Police recovered 27 bottles of the prohibited cough syrup, amounting to 2700 ml, from their possession.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, the Patamda DSP revealed details of the crackdown.

He said that special instructions had been issued to curb the illegal trade of narcotic substances across the district.

Acting on a tip-off, police learned that two suspects — one of them a minor — were engaged in the sale and purchase of banned cough syrup near the Murda Maidan area of Azadnagar.

A special raiding team was immediately formed, following which police reached the spot and apprehended both suspects. During the search, 27 bottles of cough syrup — commonly misused as an intoxicant and banned for sale — were seized.

The DSP said that interrogation of the arrested duo is underway. Police are trying to trace the source of the contraband and identify the network involved in its distribution.

Legal formalities have been initiated, and both accused are being processed for judicial custody.

Police reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in illegal narcotics trade in the district.
