Jamshedpur, Oct 10: Jamshedpur is set to witness a transformative change in its traffic system with the construction of two expressways and an 11-kilometer elevated corridor. These ambitious projects, being developed under the Bharatmala Project of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aim to provide seamless connectivity between National Highway 33 and the Kolkata-Mumbai Highway, covering a total stretch of about 109 kilometers.

The proposed network will also extend to Tangabil in Odisha, where both expressways will converge with the Kolkata-Mumbai Highway. Once completed, the new infrastructure will significantly reduce travel time, decongest city roads and improve industrial connectivity across Jharkhand and neighboring states.

The first expressway will originate near Mukhiyadanga, featuring an 11-kilometer elevated corridor passing over the city and Tatanagar Railway Station, before continuing as an expressway toward Tangabil. The second expressway will begin at Kandrabeda in Seraikela district, linking with the first expressway near Haldipokhar via Adityapur.

The survey for the Kandrabeda–Haldipokhar stretch has already been completed, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is under preparation. Meanwhile, the survey for the Mukhiyadanga–Tangabil section is set to begin soon.

The Kandrabeda–Haldipokhar expressway, measuring about 109 kilometers, will provide direct connectivity from NH 33 to the Kolkata-Mumbai Highway, benefiting traffic bound for both Mumbai and Odisha. An elevated corridor of 4.5 kilometers will also be constructed above the Adityapur Industrial Area, with ramps at three major points, including one near the Sitarampur Dam, to ensure smooth local access.

In Jamshedpur, the 11-kilometer elevated corridor will start from Mukhiyadanga and descend beyond Tatanagar Railway Station, with ramps proposed at Golmuri, Sunsunia Gate and Litti Chowk to provide easy entry and exit points for residents.

Officials believe this project will bring a major transformation to Jamshedpur’s urban landscape, easing congestion, improving logistics and strengthening trade routes across eastern India. Work is expected to begin once the DPR and design plans receive NHAI’s final approval.
