Jamshedpur, Feb 22: Tata Motors Jamshedpur plant is set to undergo a two-day block closure starting Saturday, February 24. Normal operations are expected to resume on Monday, after the weekly holiday on Sunday. This will mark the third consecutive week of block closure on Saturdays, with a total of three days of closure this month.
Employees will bear a 50 percent loss of their pay during this period, while management will provide 50 percent salary, as per the agreement signed between Tata Motors management and the union on July 31, 2017. The agreement allows for a maximum of 54 days of block closure per year, as decided mutually.
Block closures are attributed to declining demand for the company’s products and vehicles. The provision for block closure was initially set at 39 days in the agreement, which was later increased to 54 days to accommodate changing circumstances.
