Jabalpur/Bhopal (IANS): The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday ordered a team of doctors from AIIMS Delhi to conduct a second autopsy of her mortal remains.
The High Court issued the order during a hearing on a petition by Twisha Sharma’s family, who challenged a lower court’s refusal to allow a fresh post-mortem examination.
The family argued that several inconsistencies and procedural lapses in the first autopsy cast doubt on the fairness of the investigation.
During the hearing, the court directed state authorities to preserve all medical and forensic evidence and extend full cooperation to the AIIMS Delhi team.
The High Court also instructed officials to hand over all records related to the case—including the first post-mortem report and investigation documents—to the medical experts conducting the second autopsy.
The court observed that the seriousness of the case and the family’s allegations necessitated an independent medical examination.
Investigators found Twisha Sharma dead at her in-laws’ residence in Bag Mugalia Extension under the Katara Hills police station area in Bhopal on May 12.
In their petition before the High Court, Twisha’s family alleged that authorities committed major irregularities in the initial investigation.
They claimed that the police registered the FIR three days after her death, despite the family’s repeated demands for immediate action.
The family also questioned how doctors conducted the first post-mortem.
According to their counsel, authorities failed to provide the doctors with the material allegedly used for hanging during the examination.
The family highlighted another major discrepancy before the court: the post-mortem report and the police investigators’ records listed conflicting measurements for Twisha’s height.
The case has attracted widespread public attention following allegations of dowry harassment against Twisha Sharma’s in-laws.
The FIR at the Katara Hills police station names several individuals, including Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh.
The police registered the case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has already recommended a CBI probe into the matter, and officials are completing the procedural formalities for the transfer.
