Preparations on for a grand Tusu fair at Gopal Maidan on Jan 21

Jamshedpur: Steel City is set to witness a grand Tusu fair on 21st January at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur. This year, several teams from Odisha will perform at a cultural event during the fair, organized every year by Jharkhandvasi Ekta Manch. This was informed on Wednesday by the MP of Jamshedpur cum convenor of the outfit Bidyut Baran Mahato.
Addressing a press meet at Shaheed Nirmal Bhavan in Sonari, Mahato said the upcoming fair is an attempt to preserve the ancient culture and civilization of the tribal people of Jharkhand.
�Tusu fair is being organized to save the rich cultural heritage of our forefathers from becoming a thing of the past. That is why we are going to request the CM to declare state holiday for three days. Every year, a large number of people from Rourkela, Baripada, Jhargram, Purulia, Ranchi and Tamar reach the fair with Tusu statue and Choural to participate in the proramme,� he said.
Also present on the occasion, Ichagarh MLA cum convenor of the outfit Sadhucharan Mahato said this year five prizes each would be given for Choural and Budhi Gadi Nach contests.
Chief convenor of the outfit Astik Mahato said the roads around Gopal Maidan should be closed during Tusu fair as a large number of people visit the venue. He said prizes worth over Rs 5 lakh would be distributed among the participants this year. First prize of Tusu would be Rs 31,000 cash while second and third prizes would be Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. First prize for Choural contest would be Rs 25,000 while second and third prizes would be Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000.
