On Tusu, Damodih villagers stay away from alcohol

Jamshedpur, Jan. 14: Deputy Collector of Chief Minister Camp office Sanjay Kumar on Saturday visited the Damodih village in Potka block under East Singhbhum district and inquired about the progress of the ongoing de-addiction campaign.

The tribal village which is reported to be alcohol free is on its way to become a de-addiction model village for which Sanjay Kumar is trying his level best.

Despite the MakarSankranti festival, Sanjay Kumar during surprise visit to the village on Saturday, January 14 didn�t find a person hooked to alcohol and drug.

Several heads of the family have made a written announcement that no member of their family is addicted to drug. The heads of the concerned families were awarded certificates by Sanjay Kumar.

On the other hand, village pradhan, Thakur Majhi was felicitated with a shawl while village priest Raghunath Sadar was offered a garland.

Village pradhan and priest played a vital role in creating a de-addiction environment in the village. Later, Sanjay Kumar also met the family members of late Dakhin Tudu who ran campaign against alcohol for decades in the village. Dakhin�s family members were also felicitated.

On the occasion addressing the villagers, Sanjay Kumar said, �You people are playing a vital role in making the village drug free and present an example for other villages of the state and the country. The upcoming generation would also be thankful for your contribution�, added the deputy collector. Sanjay Kumar also met the youths at the sports competition held in the village of the occasion of MakarSankranti and appealed them to help make the village drug free.
