Two-day Tata Steel championship sees strong participation and spirited performances
Jamshedpur, Jan 9: The Inter Divisional Athletics Championship 2026 was held from January 5 to 6, witnessing enthusiastic participation and competitive performances from athletes across Tata Steel divisions. The two-day event highlighted high standards of athletic excellence and strong inter-divisional camaraderie among both men and women participants.
A total of 427 athletes took part in the championship, including 287 men and 140 women, representing more than 16 Tata Steel divisions. The impressive turnout reflected the organisation’s vibrant sports culture and active employee engagement.

In the men’s events, athletes competed in a wide range of track and field disciplines such as race walk, sprints, middle- and long-distance races, jumps, throws, relays and team events. Mansa Ram Mardi of Shared Services emerged as one of the standout performers, winning gold medals in the 100 metre, 200 metre and long jump events. Anant Rana of General Office dominated the endurance races, securing top positions in the 800 metre, 1500 metre and 5000 metre events. Dipesh Kumar Sahu from West Bokaro excelled in the throwing events, winning gold in both discus and hammer throw. In relay events, Shared Services won the men’s 4×400 metre relay, while West Bokaro topped the 4×100 metre relay. Shared Services also claimed the men’s tug of war title.

The women’s events saw equally strong performances. Kalyani Besra of Shared Services won gold in the 2000 metre race walk and 800 metre run. Geeta Hansda of Operation TSJ secured first place in the 100 metre sprint and long jump, while Arpita Patra of Operation TSJ won gold in shot put and discus throw. Operation TSJ also won the women’s 4×100 metre relay and the tug of war event.
In the overall standings, West Bokaro emerged as the men’s overall champions with 175 points, followed by Shared Services with 149 points and TSK with 88 points. In the women’s category, Operation TSJ clinched the overall championship with 126 points, while Shared Services and General Office finished second and third respectively.
