TSAF Sport Climbing Academy wins Tata Cup

Aman Verma and Anisha Verma clinch gold medals

Jamshedpur, January 29: The Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Sport Climbing Academy has clinched the Tata Cup for the second consecutive time, securing a total overall score of 406 in the Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship 2024. The point system awards 10 points for the first position, 8 points for the second, 6 points for the third, 4 points for the fourth, and 2 points for the fifth.

TSAF Climbers emerged as the overall champions, while Vidya Valley School claimed the second position with 142 points, and Raje Shivaji Climbing Wall secured the third position with 102 points.

In an impressive display of talent, Jharkhand’s Sahjada Khan secured a gold medal in the Kids Boys Bouldering and a bronze in the Kids Boys Top Rope. Aditi Modak from Jharkhand won bronze in the Youth D Girls Lead event, while Akash Soren clinched the gold medal in Youth D Boys Lead. Manisha Hansda of Jharkhand secured silver in Youth D Girls Boulder.

The Youth D Boys Boulder event saw a Jharkhand trio – Akash Soren, Shankar Singh Kunttia, and Mora Biruli – winning gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively. Manisha Hansda won silver in Youth D Girls Speed.

In Men’s Lead & Boulder Combined, Jharkhand’s Aman Verma secured a gold medal, while Anisha Verma clinched gold in Women’s Speed. Anisha Verma also won bronze in Women’s Lead & Boulder Combined.

The Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship concluded on January 29, 2024, with a closing ceremony held at the TSAF Sport Climbing Arena. DB Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Raw Materials, graced the occasion as the chief guest, with Piyush Sinha, S.D.O. of Jamshedpur, as the guest of honor. Mukul Vinayak Chaudhari, Chief Sports at Tata Steel, Hemant Gupta, Head of Sports Academies and Managing Trustee & Head of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, Pranay Sinha, Chief, Corp Services, and Dr. Sudhir Rai, GM, Medical Services, were also present at the closing ceremony. The competition saw the distribution of a total of 99 medals.

During the sport climbing competition, various activities were organised for better engagement.

Drawing competition: During the competition, approximately 500 students from classes 1 to 12 across different schools in Jamshedpur engaged in a drawing competition centred around the themes of sports and mountaineering.  Domino’s Pizza Making: An instructional pizza-making session, facilitated by Domino’s staff, provided athletes and students with a valuable opportunity to learn the art of pizza-making, enhancing their culinary skills. Golf Putting: Athletes, along with their parents or managers, actively participated in a golf putting event, thoroughly enjoying the experience on the course. Fun Zone: To add to the excitement of the Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship 2024, various team-building activities were organized, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for all attending athletes and students.
