Jamshedpur May 27: Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) in association with Indian Mountaineering Foundation organized the opening ceremony of 1st IMF All India Sports Climbing Competition (Speed) at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday.
Uttam Singh , Vice President, Iron making, Tata Steel graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion Singh said �Tata Steel has always been aspiring to provide the best facilities for sports. I would want the participants to enjoy the event and learn from it. We at Tata Steel feel very proud to host this competition�
Over 100 climbers from across the country are showcasing their skills, stamina and endurance in Sub Junior (Boys and Girls), Junior (Boys and Girls) and Senior (Men and Women) categories.
The event also sees a technical team of 30 officials comprising judges, belayers and route setters from the IMF National Sport Climbing Committee. IMF delegates present for the event are AVM Apurva Kumar Bhattacharya, Vice President, IMF and Ujjwal Ganguly, Chairman, IMF East Zone committee.
TSAF Sport Climbing Centre is equipped with a range of walls for training and competition purposes. Competition speed climbing as governed by the International Federation of Sport Climbing takes place on 15m artificial walls. Competitors climb a slightly overhanging IFSC certified wall, with belaying from the top. Sport climbing has 3 disciplines i.e. lead climbing, bouldering and speed climbing. Sport climbing has been included in Jakarta Asian Games� 18 and Tokyo Olympics� 20
