Jamshedpur, July 19: Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) is geared up to send a 34 member expedition team that includes eight women to scale the 19,600 ft Mt. Kanamo in Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. The expedition is aimed at developing leadership qualities among the Company employees and rural youth.
The 34 member team will be divided into two groups which will scale the 19,600 ft Mt Kanamo in Himachal Pradesh�s Spiti Valley. The schedule for the first group is slated between July 23 and 31 and the next group�s schedule is between August 2 and 10. This is for the sixth consecutive year that Mt Kanamo expedition is being organized by TSAF.
The team comprises of 23 Tata Steel employees, 5 rural youth selected from TSRDS and 6 members from the community.
TSAF Secretary Hemant Gupta said that the team members of both expeditions would assemble at Manali on their own. �The expedition will serve as a platform for developing leadership skills while encountering and overcoming challenging situations on the mountains and will provide an opportunity in learning tolerance during encounters with adversity and uncertainty. Such situations will test and enhance their judgment skills,� he explained.
Hemant Gupta further stated that it has always been the practice of TSAF mountaineering teams to clean garbage and other discarded material during descent as it was the aim to rid the mountains of pollutants for keeping the environment friendly. He was addressing a press meet at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Friday.
The expedition would be led by TSAF�s Head Instructor Susen Mahato (Everester). Mahato has considerable field experience in handling different groups in the Himalayas. Premlata Agrawal who herself has climbed Mt. Kanamo twice would be there as a mentor and guide to the team. Asmita Dorjee, Sr Instructor will look after administration and the team would be supported by Gopal Bisht and Randeb Singh.
Through job distribution between team members, they would be given the responsibility of taking care of specific work like preparing food, load ferry to higher camps, managing equipment and tents. Mt Kanamo expedition is one of the most eagerly awaited events of TSAF and has been instrumental in promoting a culture of fitness and wellness.
