Jamshedpur, Sep 7: The 29th East Zone Sport Climbing Championship 2025 began today at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, hosted by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Sport Climbing Academy. The four-day event has drawn around 125 athletes from Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

The competition opened with the Junior Speed Finals for boys and girls. All podium finishes on the first day were claimed by climbers from TSAF Sport Climbing Academy, Jamshedpur. In the Junior Boys category, Bhoj Birua secured first place, followed by Rajesh Honhaga in second and Sudharshan Murmu in third. Among Junior Girls, Savitri Samad clinched the top spot, while Laxmi Tamang and Basanti Murmu finished second and third respectively.

The formal opening ceremony was held in the evening at 5:00 PM. Hemant Gupta, Head of TSAF and Sports Academies, graced the occasion as chief guest. Special guests included Debdas Dutta, Rajiv Kumar Gupta, Roshan Jha, and Debraj Dutta. The championship will continue with Lead, Speed, and Boulder disciplines over the coming days.
