Carmel Community College Jamshedpur empowers women through skill training

Jamshedpur, Sep 7: Carmel Community College, Jamshedpur, held its Graduation Ceremony on September 6, 2025, at Sacred Heart Convent School, Bistupur. A total of 36 students were awarded diplomas in various professional courses. The ceremony was attended by Anil Agarwal, Owner of Tanishq Jewellery, Sr. Sareena A.C., Superior and Manager of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sr. Steffi A.C., Principal of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sr. Jasinta, Sr. Pramila A.C., In-charge of Carmel Community College, along with parents and teachers of the graduating students.

Carmel Community College offers diploma courses in Office Management, Event Management, Fashion Designing, Tailoring, and Embroidery. The Office Management program prepares students for assistant-level jobs, covering subjects such as Basic Computers, Accounting, TALLY, Communication Skills, Functional English, Life Skills, and Office Management. As part of the curriculum, students completed two-month internships at organizations including Sacred Heart Convent School, Triveni Engicons Pvt. Ltd., Apex Hospital, Mansarovar Logistics, Tanishq Jewellery, Bebbco Motors, ASL Motors, Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Pranic Healing Centre, and Kala Udyaan.

Of the 36 graduates, 15 have already secured employment in reputed organizations such as Carmel School Patna, Narbheram Hansraj, Abhushan Jewellery Showroom, Triveni Engicons, Mercy Hospital, Samsung Showroom, and Kala Udyaan.

Sharing her experience, graduate Renuka Angel Tirkey from the Office Management program said, “I am a graduate, but no one was willing to hire me earlier because I had no experience. The financial condition of my family is not good. I came to know about this course from an ex-student who told me the fee was minimal as the Sisters had started it to help needy girls. During the course, I learned Computers, TALLY, Communication Skills, and English. The Sisters and teachers were very supportive. Today, I am working in Billing and Pharmacy at Mercy Hospital. I feel confident and happy that I can now contribute to my family.”

Carmel Community College was started by the Apostolic Carmel Sisters in 2015 with the aim of providing professional training to underprivileged women. Along with Office Management, the college also offers credit courses in Event Management.

Speaking on the occasion, Sr. Steffi A.C., Principal of Sacred Heart Convent School, said, “Seeing these young women grow in confidence has been a pleasure for us. Their courage is admirable. I request organizations in Jamshedpur to come forward and support these women so they can stand on their own feet and help their families. I wish the very best to all the graduating students.”
