Jamshedpur, Dec 10: A woman, identified as Usha Mahato, 50, died in a road accident in Jadugora on Tuesday. She was run over by a truck near Naurang Market. Her father, Subhash Chandra Mahato, survived in the incident.
Sources said the mishap occurred around 4 pm when the father-daughter duo was on its way out of an alley in Naurang Market on a scooter. Subhash Chandra, who drove the two-wheeler, lost his balance when a truck suddenly came before him on the main road. He was thrown apart on the road while his daughter came under the truck�s wheels. While he survived miraculously, his daughter was crushed to a tragic death.
Social worker Upendra Sharma and the officer-in-charge of Jadugora police station, Rajeev Ranjan, took Usha Mahato to UCIL Hospital where she was pronounced brought dead.
Irked over the incident, local residents blocked the Hata-Jadugora main road for several hours to demand compensation for the next of kin of the deceased and measures to prevent road accidents.
