Triple Murder Accused Changing Statements, to Undergo Lie Detector Test

Jamshedpur: In a major development in the sensational triple murder case that shook the city’s Agrico area, the police have secured court permission to conduct a lie detector (polygraph) test on the accused, Ravindra Prasad Singh. The investigation team has now initiated contact with the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Ranchi to schedule the scientific examination.

According to police officials, once the date for the polygraph test is finalized, formal approval will again be sought from the court to shift the accused to Ranchi. The test is likely to be conducted either at the State FSL or at an authorized private forensic institute.

Changing Statements

Investigators suspect that Ravindra Prasad Singh has been attempting to mislead the police by repeatedly changing his statements during interrogation. Officials believe the accused is exaggerating claims of mental illness in an effort to divert the probe. Due to the inconsistencies in his version of events, the police have decided to rely on scientific methods to uncover the truth.

Sources said the investigating team is preparing an extensive questionnaire containing highly technical and specific questions for the polygraph examination. The aim is to verify crucial aspects of the case and determine the exact sequence of events leading to the murders.

The Incident

The gruesome incident occurred on May 11 at Quarter No. L-5/13 on Road No. 2 in Agrico under Sidgora police station limits. Ravindra Singh, a retired employee of Tata Steel, allegedly killed his wife Sarita Singh, daughter Supriya Singh, and son Ravishakh Singh using an axe and a hammer.

Family Dispute Under Scanner

Preliminary investigations have pointed towards a prolonged family dispute over the investment and handling of nearly ₹1.49 crore received as retirement benefits by the accused. Police suspect the murders were committed as an act of revenge arising from the financial disagreement within the family.

Officials stated that the investigation is now being carried out on the basis of digital evidence, banking transactions, and forensic findings rather than relying solely on verbal statements. The accused is currently lodged in judicial custody at the hospital ward of Ghaghidih Central Jail, where he remains under psychiatric supervision.
