Tatanagar Station to Get 125-Meter Signature Bridge; Railway Board Grants Approval

In a major boost to the ongoing redevelopment of Tatanagar Railway Station, the Railway Board has officially approved the construction of a state-of-the-art Signature Bridge. Designed to connect the station’s two main entrance gates, the massive structure will span approximately 125 meters in length and 36 meters in width, promising to become a new architectural landmark for the city.

The mega-project aims to streamline passenger movement, drastically ease traffic congestion, and modernize the region’s primary transit hub over the next half-century.

Key Highlights of the Project:

• Overarching Construction: The bridge will be constructed over a dozen railway lines spanning the station and the active railway yard.
• Connecting Foot Overbridges: The Signature Bridge will directly link the two new Foot Overbridges (FOBs) currently under construction at the station.
• Enhanced Connectivity: It will provide seamless transit for passengers and railway employees traveling between the main gate and the Burmamines gate.

Decongestion and Future-Proofing

The construction of this mega-bridge is expected to completely eliminate the heavy bottleneck of passenger traffic within the station premises. By linking the FOBs, the infrastructure ensures that commuter movement is evenly distributed. Officials note that this design will resolve traffic congestion at both major entry gates for the next 50 years, while also providing multiple alternative exit routes for passengers leaving the station.

Part of the ₹350-Crore Modernization Drive

The foundation stone for the Tatanagar Station Redevelopment Project was originally laid by the Prime Minister. Currently, the execution of this mega-project is moving at a rapid pace under the close monitoring of the Railway Gati Shakti Mission.

Being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹350 crore, Tatanagar Station is being completely transformed into a high-tech transit hub modeled on the lines of a modern airport terminal.
