Jamshedpur: In a heartfelt ceremony organized by the All India Sikh Students Federation, with the support of the Sonari Gurdwara Committee, a Kirtan Darbar was conducted at Sonari Gurdwara Sahib on Wednesday, dedicated to paying tribute to the victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre. The event aimed to remember and honor the lives lost during the tragic incident that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
During the program, family members of the Sikh massacre victims were bestowed with ‘Saropa’ as a mark of respect. The Federation’s Eastern India President, Satnam Singh Gambhir, used the occasion to appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for justice for the victims of the massacre.
The 1984 Sikh massacre remains etched in the collective memory of the Sikh community as a dark chapter in history. The All India Sikh Students Federation, known for its consistent advocacy for justice, organized the Kirtan Darbar on the 39th anniversary of the tragic incident. The ceremony included tributes to the martyrs, with special recognition given to the family members of Ratan Singh, Jaspal Kaur, Balwinder Kaur, Balbir Singh, Uttam Singh’s grandson, and his wife Gurpreet Kaur.
Addressing the gathering, Eastern India President Satnam Singh Gambhir emphasized that the Sikh community will not forget or forgive the 1984 Sikh massacre. The President of Sonari Gurdwara Sahib, Tara Singh, expressed the sense of alienation felt by the Sikh community due to the attitude of the central governments. Former Chairman of Gurdwara Committee, Inder Singh, and President of Inder Sikh Samaj Andolan Committee, Avtar Singh Bhatia, urged the BJP government to deliver justice to the Sikhs, highlighting the need for accountability irrespective of political affiliations.
The event also saw the presence of notable figures, including former President of Kadma Gurdwara Management Committee Sukhwinder Singh, Harender Singh Bedi, Harjeet Singh Virdi, Inderjeet Singh Panesar, Mohinderpal Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Inderpal Singh Bhatia, Mohinder Singh Bhui, Avtar Singh, and many others. The large turnout reflected the community’s commitment to remembering and seeking justice for the victims of the Sikh massacre.
