Tree Family emerge champion at SDSM School sports day

Jamshedpur, Jan. 22: S.D.S.M. School for Excellence celebrated its 19th Annual Sports Day at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday.

The chief guest for the occasion was Suraj Kumar (SDM, Dhalbhum), while Diwakar Singh, chairman of the school committee, principal Shyamali Virdi, vice-principal Ragini Singh and staff members were present for the occasion.

The program began by unfurling the school flag by the chief guest followed by a march past of six families headed by Roshan, president of the school council.

The sports meet was declared open by the chief guest, which was followed by releasing of the balloons with a mascot bearing the schools emblem and motto. In his speech, the chief guest thanked and welcomed the parents and students. He also threw light on the importance of sports for overall development of a student.

Everyone was delighted to watch the synchronized march past and other athletic events. Later, the spectators were enthralled by the display of various drills like Haweii Gala, Dumbulina, Swachh Bharat and Colors Mania performed by students of Nursery to Std. VIII. The program was followed by other sporting events like 75m flat race, 100m flat race, Gift for Friend, Relay races and others.

The kids were excited and it was really quite a joy to see how genuine and eager they were to compete or cheer the different families Mountain, Fire, Sun, Moon, Tree and Cloud.

The students showcased their multifaceted talents. It was a mega event and culminated in the award ceremony where students were awarded trophies and medals by the guest of honor Bagicha Singh (a former international athlete and Arjuna Awardee).

Tree Family was crowned the overall champion, while Moon Family was declared the first runner-up of the event along with Best Family for march-past.

Best Athlete Award in super senior boys’ category went to Kumar Shubham of Class 12 A, while Ravneet Kaur of Class 11 A was best in girls’ category.

In senior boys’ section, Anugrah Das of Class 10 A won the best athlete, while Sweta Sahu of Class 10 B was best in girls’ category. In the junior boys’ category Anugrah Kumar of Class 8 B was declared the best, while Akansha Singh of Class 7 C was best in the girls’ category.
