Dhanbad: In a harrowing incident, the closure of an old mine at Muraidih Pech in BCCL Area 1 led to the distressing cries for help from dozens of trapped laborers on Saturday. The illegal mining site was undergoing filling operations, supervised by BCCL officers and CISF jawans.
As the mine’s entrance was sealed, an unexpected and desperate cry for help echoed from within, sending shockwaves through the gathered crowd. Fear and panic enveloped the area as those present rushed to respond to the alarming situation.
Prompted by the cries, debris was hastily cleared from the mine’s entrance. The swift action revealed a startling sight – about a dozen workers emerged from the mine, having narrowly escaped a potentially tragic fate. Astonishingly, these laborers had entered the mine with bikes and bicycles, underscoring the perilous conditions they were exposed to.
The timely response to the distress calls saved the lives of the trapped workers, preventing what could have been a catastrophic incident.
