Trains services disrupted due to heavy rains in Chennai


Jamshedpur, Dec. 5: The South Eastern Railway (SER) has issued a notification cancelling 18189 Tatanagar-Rourkela Alleppy Link Express on December 4 and 5 due to the floods in Chennai.

Tata-Rourkela Alleppey Link Express and Dhanbad-Alleppey Express also remained cancelled on Thursday due to the incessant rain in Tamil Nadu. Earlier Alleppey-Dhanbad Express, which left Alleppey on December 2, was running on a diverted route. Moreover, Guwahati-Chennai Express will remain cancelled on Friday.

Moreover, Chennai rains have not only made life dejected there but in the city members of South Indian community are also worried lot. With no telephonic contact, parents of such student have been concerned for their children. The family members are relying on social networking sites to get connected.

Meanwhile, passengers traveling to other places in south are facing harrowing times. Due to cancellation of trains they have no choice left to travel to other places. Due to this, the rush in other trains has increased so much so that the authorities have issued a no-room for trains. Tata-Allepy, is the only train to Southern India via Tatanagar.

As heavy rains continue to lash Chennai, several parts of the city have come to a standstill. Electricity has been turned off in some areas as a precautionary measure. A holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges. Telephone services taken a hit as several areas were cut-off due to water-logging. Several people whose wards or the relatives are in South are a worried lot.

Closure of the educational institutes due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu has affected outstation students. Students from Jamshedpur studying in Chennai are a worried lot. According to the students, they need to reserve train tickets well in advance for the vacations.

Just after declaration of time table, many students booked their rail and air tickets to go home for holidays. Now semester exams for one or two papers will be extended so they need to cancel their reserved tickets. Students, who have booked railways tickets, will get some refund but in case of air tickets, they will suffer lose. Due to semester exam, many students could not manage to go home during Diwali vacations.

Students said that they are safe in the region and there are no casualties but due to heavy rains, They could not go to college after Diwali holidays. The educational had scheduled term examinations after Diwali vacations. At least two papers of the semester exams could not be conducted because of heavy rains.
