Tragic Gas Cylinder Fire in Jamshedpur claims Life, two injured

Jamshedpur: A devastating incident took place this morning at Basant Vihar Apartment in Ramnagar, under the jurisdiction of Kadma police station, as a gas leak led to a catastrophic fire at the residence of Omprakash Gupta on the third floor. Tragically, the fire claimed the life of Neeta Gupta, while two other family members sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment. The incident, which occurred during breakfast preparations, sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift response from local authorities and Tata Steel’s fire brigade.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, during a routine breakfast preparation. The Gupta family’s kitchen housed three gas cylinders, and it is believed that a gas leak triggered a sudden fire. Within moments, one of the cylinders ignited, creating a chaotic and perilous situation. The rapidly spreading flames and smoke caught the family off-guard, making it impossible for them to contain the blaze.

The sight of flames and smoke triggered panic among residents of the apartment complex, causing a stampede as people from neighbouring flats rushed to the scene. Some residents managed to escape the building to ensure their safety. Local individuals attempted to extinguish the flames, but the fire’s intensity rendered their efforts futile.

The fire department and the police were promptly informed of the incident. Responding to the emergency, the Government of Jharkhand’s Fire Department and Tata Steel’s fire brigade arrived at the scene. Despite significant challenges, including the ferocity of the fire and limited access due to the apartment’s structure, the joint efforts of these firefighting teams eventually brought the blaze under control.

Tragically, Neeta Gupta, the wife of Omprakash Gupta, lost her life in the incident. She was unable to escape the rapidly escalating fire. Two other members of the Gupta family suffered injuries during their attempts to escape the blaze and are presently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable, although they are being closely monitored by medical professionals.

The fire has resulted in significant damage to the Gupta family’s residence and is expected to have far-reaching consequences. Additionally, the entire flat has had its power supply disconnected as a safety precaution.

Omprakash Gupta, the head of the family, is a local businessman, and authorities are working diligently to ascertain the precise cause of the gas cylinder fire. An investigation is underway to determine whether any safety lapses or other factors contributed to the tragedy.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of gas safety measures and the need for vigilance when handling gas cylinders within households.
