ADC issues instructions to expedite road safety measures in city

Jamshedpur, Sep 27: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), East Singhbhum, Sourabh Sinha, presided over a meeting of District Road Safety Committee and city traffic at Jamshedpur Collectorate auditorium on Tuesday. He reviewed the status of various plans made during previous meetings and issued a slew of instructions to the committee members for expediting the ongoing measures on road safety.

At the meeting, it was decided to identify seven places across the city for installation of traffic signal posts. The places proposed are Tata Steel UISL roundabout, Circuit House roundabout, Tube Gate roundabout, Labour Bureau roundabout, Old Court turning point, Rankini Mandir, Kadma and Golmuri Chowk. Few more places would be identified for traffic signal installation, said the ADC.

The ADC authorized the Road Safety Committee, JNAC and DSP Traffic for carrying out the task of identifying sites of signal installation.

Road Safety Committee officials said 15 people died and 17 got injured in a total of 26 road accidents reported in August this year. A review of the 26 accidents revealed that they occurred due to over-speeding, wrong side driving, drunk driving and use of phone while driving. From April 2022 till date, altogether 20 cases of hit and run were reported. In two cases, the victims were given Rs 2 lakh each in compensation, officials said.

Members of Bus Owners Association were also present at the meeting. They were directed to get the 28 dilapidated buses parked at Mango Bus Stand removed by informing their owners.

District Transport Officer Dinesh Ranjan, NHAI Project Director Ajay Kapoor and many other government officials were present at the meeting.
