Traffic chaos in Jamshedpur due to road construction  

Jamshedpur: The traffic system around the MGM Hospital roundabout came to a standstill on Friday due to ongoing road construction. Vehicles were stranded in long queues stretching from Mango Bus Stand to the roundabout and from Jail Chowk to MGM Hospital. The jam was so severe that even ambulances and essential service vehicles were caught in the congestion, causing panic among commuters.

Upon receiving the information, the Sakchi Traffic Police rushed to the spot and began efforts to clear the gridlock. Despite their best attempts, the poor road conditions and ongoing construction work made the situation more challenging. Frustrated drivers struggled to navigate the mess, while several were visibly irritated by the delays caused by mismanagement.

Eyewitnesses blamed the chaos on a lack of proper management during the road construction and the absence of a pre-planned traffic diversion strategy. Ambulances stuck in the jam exacerbated the gravity of the situation, putting patients at risk of delayed medical attention.

Traffic police personnel, equipped with barricades, manually guided vehicles through the bottleneck. After more than an hour of rigorous efforts, they managed to restore normal traffic flow.

Speaking about the incident, the Traffic Inspector admitted shortcomings in planning and promised better arrangements in the future. “We will ensure proper traffic diversions and alternative routes during construction activities to prevent such disruptions,” he stated.

Local residents expressed frustration over the administration’s failure to manage traffic during the roadwork. “Proper planning should have been implemented to avoid such inconvenience to the public,” one resident remarked.

This incident highlights the need for improved traffic management, especially in sensitive areas like hospitals, where uninterrupted movement is crucial. The authorities must address these lapses to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
