Traders fined Rs 1 lakh for dealing in banned polythene

Jamshedpur: A team of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) collected fine worth Rs 50,000 each from two traders in Jugsalai and Mango on Friday after banned polythene bags were found from their possession.

According to Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC, We had received tip-off about a large stock of banned polythene being present in Jugsalai and Mango. We were keeping an eye on the traders. The polythene stock was being taken to Mango, Jugsalai and Jadugora from West Bengal.

The JNAC officials fined Deep Singh of Jugsalai and Jitendra Sao of Mango and also took an undertaking from each for not dealing in polythene in future. They said search for a Jadugora-based trader, Om Prakash Singh, was on.

Kumar said the JNAC would not allow anyone to deal in the banned polythene in any manner. He said there were few traders who were causing great harm to the environment just to line up their pockets.

As per Kumar, the city would be made completely free from polythene before Environment Day this year.
