Trade unions hold dharna against labour laws reform

Jamshedpur: Central Trade Union wings have jointly held dharna in front of DC office against anti-workers reforms in labour laws, foreign direct investment, land acquisition ordinance and cut in MGNREGA allocations.

The trade union wings submitted a six-point charter of demands addressing the Prime Minister at the DC office.

Those who took part in the dharna included Rakeshwar Pandey of INTUC, Krishna Singh of BMS, Swapan Ghosal of INTUC, TN Singh of CITU, Om Prakash and Amit Roy of AITUC, and Dinesh Singh of HMS.

It may be mentioned here that 11 central trade union organizations had given a call of nation-wide protest on February 26.

The demands submitted to the Union Government are repeal of labour law amendments, positive action on 10-point charter of demands put forth by trade unions, minimum wage of Rs 15,000 to workers from unorganized sector, an end to contract system, equal benefits to contract workers on a par with permanent workers and mandatory benefits like bonus, PF, gratuity to workers from all segments, a ban on FDI in railway, defence, power and Insurance sector and other public sector enterprises and more fund allocations for MGNREGA.
